Need help from you guys figuring out my problem. My Bronco died on me while driving the other day. It is an 89 with the 2.9l, manual tranny, auto t-case. Reman tranny and engine installed last year. Less than 1000 miles on them. Truck only gets used during hunting season. Other than that it pretty much just sits. I do crank it at least weekly, and sometimes drive it to work. When we dropped the new motor in, all motor accessories were replaced. Also replaced fuel pump and fuel filter. All new plugs, wires, distributor etc. The day it died, I cranked it up, let it idle for a few mins, then left the house. Made it about 1 block and she just died. No spitting or sputtering. Almost like the key was turned off. Tried to restart and got nothing. The engine would turn over, but not crank. Towed it home and left for work. Next day I tried to start it again and same thing. First I checked the fuel rail, no gauge to test it, but did get good fuel at the rail. Checked the coil, tested bad with the meter, so I replaced it. Still no start?

Got the truck sitting under the carport, no clue what to check next. Please guys, give me some suggestions.

So you're getting a good stream of gas at the injectors? It's hard to really know if it's enough but if all that's been replaced, then you might have a bad connection some where.

When you say it did the same thing, did it run for about a block or so and die again?

No, I mean it turned over and wouldn't start.
Plan as of now is to pull upper intake and check the distributor, cap etc.

There should be a ground connector near the battery that goes from the battery to ecu ground. It will look like a fuse holder or similar, but its just a connector. Make sure the connector is good and tight. Mine worked its way loose but was still connected. Also, check the ECU fuse and the ECU relay...

Swapped in a new distributor with a module, set the timing and she fired up and purred like a kitten. Glad to have her back on the road!

Awesome! Glad to hear it. I thought about the module on the back but I figured taht was replaced.

Oh well. Enjoy that good looking Bronco II!
