I wish I had gotten pics before I started to work on my truck. I'll use a picture of my Dad's 88 since his is stock.
When I got the truck it would run, but only had 1&2 gears. Traded my 89 Cherokee Laredo for it and two 86 Rangers. We drove mine home and pulled the other two.
First thing I did was slap in a new tranny. Picked one up at O' Reilly's for 1000, no core so I can rebuild my old one. Next it had a cracked exhaust manifold, pulled one off a spare 2.9 we picked up a year earlier for my dad's truck.
After I had it driving I noticed my temp and fuel gauge didn't work. $300 for a fuel pump and sender and a coolant temp sensor fixed it. We pulled the bed off the truck to do the pump since at this time my 3 inch lift from Performance Accessories had come in. Lifted the cab, extended the steerin shaft, installed the new pump and then blocked the bed.
After the lift I rolled my old Pacer Warrior 16x8s with Winston Winner ATs under it from my Sport Trac. Went to test the 4WD. There was none. Checked transfercase and shaft, all of it was turning fine. This led to the front hubs, pulled them down.... grease had solidified. Soaked everything in mineral spirits for a day. Several cans of brake cleaner later, new bearings and grease were put in.
Took the time to remove t-case shifter and extende it 3 inches. Decided mirrors and emblems had to go. Bondo over emblem and mirror holes, fixed bed dent. Sanded and primed areas. Painted black to match truck.
Truck sit for awhile, drove it around some one day. Went to park it and truck won't move... Check some stuff and replace Clutch Master Cylinder. Still won't move. Do some more checking. Now it won't crank.
Checked and then bought Clutch Pedal Position switch, installed. Still won't crank. Cut a half inch bushing from 1/4 pvc pipe to keep switch from moving. Now it cranks. Still won't move. Get ready to pull the transmission and discover t-case was bumped into nuertal. Moved to 2high, put in a bolt to keep it from moving again. Truck moved now.
Installed mirrors off a Toyota Celica because the have a ball socket design and are more adjustable then previous huge metal mirrors.
I'll post pics when I get home. I've caught up to the work I've done so far.
