Does anyone know what determined if the aluminum wheel's center caps had the red center disk or the black center disk? (Rear wheels only, since fronts has lockouts with no center disk needed on those.)
Was it related to exterior color, or model, or perhaps year?
Thanks in advance for any clarification on this.

Basically 83-92 were red.

@edj ,
My stock 87 Ranger S were black 🤷🤷🤷

The center caps for the steel wheels do interchange with the later black centered center caps.

I thought ‘88 was the cutoff & the center went to black from red in ‘89.
Maybe it varied on trim level? My ‘88 2wd xlt s/c had the red centers.

My fil's ;91 has red. It's a low mule cream puff but originality unknown.

I know explorers were always black.

My ‘89 STX was 100% stock when I got it in 95. The rears were red and matched the red manual hubs.
