My 88 ranger has had idle problems since I bought it. Currently it has been better. I found some vacuum lines at the MAP sensor that were old and cracked and replaced them. It helped, but problem is still there. I noticed when I sprayed the MAP area with carb cleaner the problem corrected itself.
What happens is the idle will bounce from about 400rpm to 1500rpm. Sometimes the range is less and it will normally idle at 1000rpm.
It usally will stall once or twice when cold in the morning.
New plugs and wires did not really help. New fuel filter. New IAC.
It does not do this all the time. It comes and goes.
Any suggestions. I also have a muffler and exhaust pipe with holes in them. I don't know if that would make any difference. I read something that reference the EGR needing a certain amount of backpressure to work.
I have no CEL on. Not sure if it even has one.
