Viper or anyone question?

I orderd the solenoid kit from Napa with 3-4 shift and converter lockup. Do you have to remove the valve body to change them and can the valve body gasket be re-used is it possable to get it off without tearing the gasket. Napa you have to buy the full rebuild kit to get the gaskets $154.00 I tried Napa and Cragan to get a single valve body to trans gasket with no luck if you gone through this need help

I got 175,000 on it only issue is slipping out of gear when letting off the gas over 25mph or higher. You coast back down to 25mph and it clicks back in gear. We figured its the converter lockup solenoid or an issue with both solenoids "cross my fingers"

The VB needs to be removed, Also the gaskets are diffrent 1 solenoid/2solenoid, and I do recc. to replace the seperator plate gaskets, revirse servo gasket, crap trap filter screen.

also, note where the check balls are located before moving the VB.

Tools needed:
13mm socket w/ 3" ext. -------- Pan
dental picks ------------------- Z bar clip
10mm socket ------------------ VB
27 or 30 torks driver ----------- seperator plate

I think I said it all.

You can get the valve body gasket separate from the dealer.

Thanks Guys

I took the truck to Placerville Transmission the trans mechanic took it for a test drive. He tested in each gear and on the freeway he said he never had one do that. He said its eather the 3-4 shift solenoid it acks like its not going into 4th. He also thinks it may be a valve body gasket a little pice blown out. I bought both solenoids TCC and 3-4 shift and both valve body gaskets for $103.77

I get it apart and new stuff put in and test it what trans oil is best for these? I been using Valvoline Dextron Mercon

As long as it's DexIII/Mercon rated its fine for it.

Well got it apart

When I pulled the valve body down on top was a small brass washer and thin steel washer. The brass one is one inch wide the other smaller going to over in the morning have the trans guy look at them. Also my new converter lockup solenoid dont have the bracket the bolt goes through like the stock one does

There should be no loose parts floating in your trans, the washers might go to the shifter linkage.

I just went through the same thing . I had the same symptoms, more or less, and I replaced just the od solenoid, but it didn't fix my problem. Hope it works for you.

Just curious what happened

Its a no go

I changed both solenoids still the same the pices found on top of the valve body where from the rear planetary. I took it to Placerville Transmission they pulled it out and apart they found the rear planetary broke in half. They are rebuilding it with upgraded planetary should be done by Monday
