Last winter I removed the engine from this '88 to clean and repaint it. I expected it to be a quick job. Now, several months later I finally got the engine back into the truck but I can't remember how all the wires were routed. Also I seem to have a lot of connections that have no where to go, partcularly the alternator. What happened to my alternator plug!? It's no where to be found! Is that part of the harness able to be removed? I may have misplaced it. Any help would be appreciated.

Alternator has a separate harness from the driver's side plugs.

Main harness run between the upper intake plenum runners. I router mine between the dist and upper intake, but you'll might have to extend the temp gauge sender wire and the TPS wires become a stretch.

Once it's routed through the intake runners, should hopefully come together.

chilsam - o2 sensor wiring might be hiding behind the engine. It's on the passenger side.

Here's a pic of the harness:

Looks like it comes off the injector harness:

wiring is complete

Thanks for your help, fellas. After three days of hunting I found the missing section of harness resting comfortably on the rear bumper, used your descritions and got it put in.:yahoo:
Now for the new issue. The fuel in the tank has been sitting for nine years. Neenless to say, it's useless. Before I take care of that I need to change the filter but the stock filter is a reservoir type. Can I replace that with a canister?

Your 1988 Ranger should have a fuel filter up stream past the frame mounted pump tucked in the frame rail kind of next to the driver's side exhaust manifold.
