I got a 1988 ranger and the passenger side window is weak going up i have to start the truck to get it up and the window also goes forward so i have to push it back towards the rear of the truck to keep it from leaving a crake between the glass and the weatherstrip anyhelp would be nice

my 88 bronco II does the same, I have replaced the motor and greased the reglautor sliders, its 10% better but i still need to start it. also my door lock is weak i need to hit the button sevral times to make it lock, but not unlock.

It seems like its an amprage problem, I used my multy meter when testing it 12volts no load but when its plugged into the motor it drops to 4volts. Ill be looking for brittle and or corroted wires. i know there is a relay for the door locks, but unshure if there is one for the window motor.

test the motor, hook up jumper wires straight from the batt. and see how fast it is, also check the nylon sliders in the reglautor, 1 maybe broken that could be why it shifts out of place.

Morning:

After reading the various replys the first thing I thought of was the ground return from the door. You can have 13 volts going in but if you do not have a good return you might as well have less since the motor doesn't know the difference.

Good Luck just a thought :) :)

i was also reading somewhere and it said the glue from where the glass attaches to the motor arm it could have come unglued making the window move instead of moving straight up.and for the slowness and weakness i think its just a weak motor cause they have never been replaced. But ill check it with my multimeter.

Ok this is how it is right now.The Driver's side window goes up and down fine but is kinda slow going back up.And on the passenger side the window goes up and down but is slow going up and also when it goes up it slides toward the front of the door and sometimes leaves a small creak between the window and the door weatherstrip Could both window motors just be weak and need to be replaced and what could cause the passenger window to do this and how to fix it.Thanks.

Ok I figured out what the problem was with the window moving forward when going up.The two bolts that hold the regulator wher gone so i put two bolts on and it stopped it from moving around. Now my only problem is that The window is a little slow.I have almost 12 volts when the window goes up and with no load it has no amperage.so am thinking just a weak motor? And one more problem not with the window though my passenger side door lock doesnt work it will not lock or unlock with the button. It will by hand or by key.The button on the passenger side works the drivers side lock and the drivers side button works the driver side lock.So any ideas on that anyone?
