I bought an 88 standard cab with the 2.9 last month. The previous owner(s) had removed the compressor and lines, leaving the evaporator and condensor in place.
Rather than trying to get years of dirt and dust out of the parts remaining, My idea is to pull the complete refrigeration system out of a truck at the junkyard, without releasing freon; then putting it all in my truck. Sound reasonable?
The major problem I see is the 2.9 still has v-belts, and most of the newer trucks have serpentine belt. This may be fixed by changing the cluch and drive sheave; but I don't know if the compressors are comparable.
Anybody know if the comp mounting brackets are at all compatable?
I'm thinking if I go to this much trouble, I might as well get parts from a 94 that has R-134 instead of something that has R-12. Especially since I don't have a vacuum pump or manifold guages anymore.
Or is this too much trouble to go to since the 3-65 a/c works okay?
Thanks for your thoughts,
Robert
