88 gauge cluster keeps blowing fuze

That red and yellow wire is actually a red and green wire that I can't figure out which pin it goes into on the plug. Never tapped into that wire. I tapped into a solid red wire in the column. And I didn't run it to the fuse box because I had an online fuse an had one on the back of the head unit

Honestly if you had the cash what I would do is get a piece of flat plate. cut it to fit some guages. And buy the guages you want and put them in the truck. Replace all the wiring for the guages. I myself think first Gen dash is ugly and you would know the wiring isn't butched.

This is what I'm currently doing in my 94 because I have this same problem. Dome light stays on dash lights didn't work. Ash tray had like 12 wires off it...

Just rewire new shit. The stock wiring is too hard to figure out

The original wiring is short, under size, and at 25 yrs old brittle and frayed.

Car wiring sucks. But thanks to the interwebz, you can pull up a wiring diagram. If you spend some time reading it. Start at be beginning where the symbols are explained. I would get another IP , some wire repair tools, and a cheap meter. Good luck

i actually favor the first gen dash. as much as i would love to get some sheet steel and custom make my own dash with new gauges though, i just dont have 800 dollars to throw into it. and i cant find wiring diagrams anywhere for the first gen. the only issues i had with it was when i bought it it didnt have a radio. i wired in a radio and the gauge lights quit workin. now im just freakin out seeing all these plugs melt and all. but other than that anybody have a suggestion with the wiring to the fuel pump? lol my gas guage always acted goofy but i think its just the sending unit. ive pulled the bed off before and checkd out those rigged trailer plug ins. they arent the reason the gauge doesnt work. i just dont think theyre too safe like that
