ok i was going to swap to a 302 but for the coust of the 302 swap i can drop a 4.0 with a james duff chip and allmost make the same amout of power

my ? is what years can i look at for the 4.0 swap
what year and what truck should i look for a engine harness and ecm

90 to about 99 for the base engine.

90 to about 93 or 94 for the wiring.

Stay away from Explorers. The harnesses aren't the same.

what year on the ecm i fount a engine harness off a 92 ranger

your donor for wiring should be a 2nd gen ranger. the best engine computer is 91-92 explorer (supposedly tuned for a little more torque) and your engine can be 90-97 although anything 90-92 (ranger or explorer) is the best donor. it will already have the proper injectors and egr (or i think non-egr) setup for the wiring and computer. the wiring for the swap is already a little bit of a pain but its not to bad as long as you try to stay within the 90-92 range. also try to make sure your wiring and computer come from a donor with the same trans as your truck. not as important if you have a manual, but very important if you have an auto.

i did my swap with a 93 navajo engine but i had to swap to the older style injectors. my wiring and injectors came from a 90 ranger, and my computer was from a 91 explorer.

Will a harness from a 93 mazda navaho work a buddy has one he says it was a auto trans in it

Its easier to get an entire donor vehicle and swap it all over.

i would get a parts car but its hard to find a cheep ranger or explore arond here hell i thank i got one of maybe 4 bronco ii in the whole town and my bronco ii came from tellcity IN

so im going to be stuck to geting parts here and there for the swap

I paid $800 for mine. More than I wanted to spend, but there wasn't anything wrong with it. Then sold the tranny for $250, and the shell for $200, and my 2.9 for $200. So I came out pretty good.

Where you at?
