88 Bronco 2 No spark

Found the 2nd screw right where it should have been, but there was a plastic cap covering it?? And it’s smaller than 7/32 I don’t have anything to fit it.

That's one that they cleverly designed to force you to grind down your 5.5mm socket.

Lol I started prying on it slowly and noticed something coming out of the 2nd hole. I was like, really? And the different size screws, yea ford was on some good stuff back then. Thanks again guys, this forum rocks. I’ll let you know how the TFI swap goes.

I forgot about the cap hiding one of the screws. I bet that the engineer that designed such a monkey puzzle got a bonus for it.

You're getting there, and do let us know how it turns out.

I probed and tested the red/green wire and green/yellow wire. Both on fender wheel and at dizzy.

I assume battery has been discharged from cranking the engine, but......................
Good battery is 12.3v to 12.8volt, after sitting for a few hours, key off

Its not your issue for no spark
But just a heads up, once engine is running and battery has been charged a few times, test battery voltage after it sits over night

Yes cranking too much, I tested battery after the multimeter check and it was around 12.2. Did take on a lot of cranking though from trying to start.

This might help someone later

Have you checked for the Crank Position Sensor? If an '88 is like the later models, key "on" the check engine light should come on. Cranking the starter the CEL should go off, if it's receiving a signal from CPS.

No CEL, but using a test light. Key to “ON” I get 2 quick blinks of light, 5 long blinks and then 9 blinks followed by 5 blinks. The test light does not illuminate when cranking.

Look at the "check engine" light in the dash display.

Key on, CEL on confirms that the engine computer booted up.

Key to "crank", CEL going off confirms that computer sees the crankshaft turning.

I don’t see a CEL in the cluster.

Code 95 has something to do with the ignition control module and the fuel pump. The guy in the book keeps saying to mess around with the inertia safety switch for the fuel pump and turn the key but do not crank the engine and see if you can hear the fuel pump prime.

You do not have a crank sensor, that is all done inside the distributor.

The inertia switch was problematic, but is now bypassed with a paper clip. I see where the check engine light is supposed to be in the bottom yellow corner. I thumped the dash with by hand and now it’s illuminated ALL THE TIME.. even with the keys out of the ignition. It only turns off when the key is turned to run. What’s up?!?

My bad.. still had the test light hooked up. Ok key on CEL is illuminated. While cranking it goes away.
