88-92 2.3L 2WD 5 speed manual transmission question

Are the Mitsubishi and Mazda transmissions enterchangable. I have a 92 2.3L 2WD Ranger with the Mazda transmission. I tried to teach my wife to drive stick, and she destroyed my transmission.
I need to know if I can instal the Mitsubishi transmission. And if so, I need to know if i would need to change any other parts in order to do so.
Also if anyone knows how I can get a transmisson as cheap and fast as possible, I would love to know how.
It saddens me to look at my Ranger up on jack stands waiting for the transmisson. She does not handle very well on the jack stands. It is very difficult to steer.

why not just get another m5od? it would be easier to swap as everything would stay the same. or are you talking about swaping in an a4ld automatic so she can drive it? check www.car-part.com for availability or parts at your near by junk yard.

the M5OD trans is the better manual trans of the 2, youre better off going with it. it will be alot easier to find one as well, and you wont need to change any other parts (like maybe the crossmember or driveshaft)

I myself am at a loss as to why someone messes up a tranny learning how to drive. Usually they trash the clutch disk.

BTW if you are adamant about teaching her, find a large level parking lot and disconnect the throttle at the TPS. It generally takes me about a 1/2 hour to teach them this way.
