2.9l manual ranger, 4x4. I have fire, compression, fuel, and air. Ive replaced both fuel pumps and filter, and now have about 40 psi in the fuel rail. The ranger will not start on its own fuel. if i use and external fuel, such as fuel in a cup, ether, or fuel threw vacuum line it will run just fine. The injectors have power, i checked with test light not noid lights(haven't got out to rent them yet) any other suggested test?

Does anyone know what triggers the injectors to pulse?

Personally I narrowed it down to, faulty injectors, gummed injectors, triggering mechanism (sensor) failure, or EEC failure.

Thanks in advance!

Just because the fact that it runs if you put gas directly into it would make me think that the EEC is OK. Probably the others too.

Since it runs this way, I would wonder if maybe theres something keeping fuel from getting to the rails after the FPR? You said it has 40 PSI Key on right?

Has this thing been parked a long time? Is there a fuel quality issue to keep it from running?

That's a good point too. I've seen what ethanol has done to motors that sit...especially boat motors :shok:

Perhaps that has gummed something up..

As far as I know, it may have sat for up to 2 to 3 yrs. And found out today the FPR and EEC are not the problem. Next on my list is to take off rails and and clean them and the injectors by hand.

well, i am now getting aggravated. the injectors are free of obstructions (they were clear when i took them out).and im still having the same problem. theres a thing on the frame rail that is connected to the fuel system right before the high pressure pump kinda looks like a oil filter.... or did rangers have 2 fuel filters? And how bright does a noid light have to shine?

Yeah, in a way.. there is a fuel filter (canister style after the hi press pump) and a accumulator ( I think..I honestly forget the name) but that is a sealed for life part. It's something that a few have messed with and been ok while others have had issues.

It has a small filter inside.

I think this narrows it down to the injectors ground, or its triggering mechanism, the injector is holding a constants 12v at the connector. when I did the noid light test, they worked BUT the light was VERY dim. any ideas on that? Just got off the phone w/ the PO and he said "It was starting rought, but once it got going it ran all day. To the point it wouldn't start." dunno if this helps.

Glad you found the problem. How did you find out that was it? Did you run codes or just swap it with a working MAP that you had around?

I used a drill battery and a can of carb cleaner hooked some jumpers up and while spraying the carb cleaner thru the injector and switching it after a few times i got a nice spray out the injectors. Works good so far I just stripped some insulation off a wire to put on the end of the spray tube to get a seal on the injector.

can a map sensor be why my cylinders r getting flooded...replaced tps. iat, iac, fpr, and a tuneup. its so bad the only way to start it is to hit the inertia switch after a flood and then get it running and then reset the switch...and then watch money go out the tailpipe and the rest washing down my cyl. i dont feel all that bad bout the parts im replacing the b2 sat in a field for 4 years and its time to replace. ive been driving for 3 weeks and know this prob pops up oh i also did a forced upper intake cleaning....boy did that make a difference in throttle response
