87 stuck in 4 low

its my little brothers first car (or shall i say truck)...well we got it home and the 4 low lite says on and with all for wheels off the ground all wheels are turninng, does anyone have any suggestions????

okay....looked on the back of the transfer case and it seems to be manual...and the trani is automatic

does it have a floor shifter inside it....... or buttons (on the over head console i beleive) that say 4x4 and 4lo?

check under your floorboard to see if the linkage is still hooked up and functioning. Check to see if your bushing is not worn where the shifter linkage connects to the tcase linkage at the tranny. Try putting the truck in neutral with the brakes off and try and shift it...

ok the bushing does have slight play but not enough to be concrned about, i took a punch and hammer and tried hitting the slector lever at the transfer case, it didn't do anything

you have a problem internally, most likely with your reduction gears, you might get lucky and just have a shifter problem inside your case, either way you'll have to pull the tcase and split it open
