I have an 87 ranger with a 2.0 carb. motor thats on its last leg...compression tests revealed leaking rings

I believe i want to swap out with a 2.3

if there's any info on here about the swap could anyone help me out?

mine has a manual trans (4 spd w/ od) not sure exactly which one - does it match up with the 2.3?
don't want to deal with switching to fuel injection so if i found a 2.3 that was fuel injected - are the intakes compatible?

appreciate any insight

The 2.3 will bolt to a 2.0 tranny. I think the intakes are compatible also. I would put a FI 2.3 in due to it having more power (and I am selling one).

Look in the tech. library for more info, its there.

^^ Yes...if the 2.3 was bolted to an auto tranny then all you have to do is add the pilot bearing...otherwise, swap in a new pilot bearing when you change the motors and you can use the carb setup from the old system...only thing you gotta watch is that if your 2.3 was fuel injected, there may not be a hole for the manual fuel pump...in that case, you can use an electronic low pressure fuel pump (4-7 psi)...

also the intake is slightly different on the fi 2.3, there is an extra hole in the carb head the the fi head doesnt have. a drill and tap will fix this problem.
