87 Ranger Transmission

I've got an 2WD 87 Ranger with a 2.9L V6 and an A4LD transmission. I've been trying to find parts to fix the trans but that's proven to be quite the uphill battle. So now, I'm looking for possible replacements. I need to know what transmissions will fit, what model year they are from and what vehicles I can source them from. I would like to keep it automatic, but I have absolutely no issue going manual. Any info and tips related to install are also welcome

IIRC 87 is an orphan year for A4LD. There aren't many options to plug and play. Car-Part only shows 87s when I search for the part.
