i have an 87 ranger extended cab, 4x4 that has dual factory fuel tanks, is this a special package or what??? any input helps

No, dual tank trucks aren't uncommon.

I think certain regions had a bigger slice of the dual tank pie than others, they're rather common around here. I can think of 6 off the top of my head that i see on a regular basis. All are gen 2 trucks fwiw.

Its a pretty rare factory option. Unfortunately you can't get the sending units new, but you can get the tanks new. I put a rear tank from a dual tank truck in my ranger, and removed my big front tank.

I was rather under the impression that 88 was the last year for the dual tank Ranger.

There was a big debate about this over in the Rare RBV section recently. Two guys from the same area were insisting that twin-tankers were fairly common until AllanD came along and pointed out that they were less than 10% of total production but because it is such a desirable option many more of those truck have survived and been preserved vs the run of the mill Ranger.

I don't know about that... I can't see people sitting there deciding whether or not to fix their truck and then deciding to fix it just because it has two fuel tanks.

IMO they are just rare enough it is a pain to find parts for them. I would rather have the more common and easy to find parts for single.
