87 ranger 4x4 engine swap HELP

@hillbillydeluxe89 ,
I do not know what your intended power needs are but I would feel very comfortable using an 87 Ranger with the following setup:
• stock rebuilt 2.9l with minimal overbore
• complete new cooling system
• 15" electric fan
• engine oil cooler
• Hypertech stage 1 PCM CHiP
• multi spark ignition
• K&N drop in air filter
• all synthetic fluids

Will further benefit from a free flow 2¼" exhaust, even more with a quality set of headers; I ran mine with this $imple setup for over 20 years ..)

I'm not a fan of the A4LD. I've had enough of them leave me walking. It's basically similar amount of work, and wiring to swap a 5.0 in as it is a 4.0. Then you have the option to use a stronger transmission, or one with more gears.
