My friend's truck's intake has a sensor on it that screws into #1 tunnel, the electrical plug faces you looking in at the engine. The threads are approx. 13mm and the wrench to take it off is 1 1/8". Anyways the sensor got broke and I'm not sure what it is to get a replacement. The tip looks like a temp sensor because there's no holes, diodes, etc. on it. Bought a air/intake sensor but the electrical plug doesn't plug in.
Any help would be appreciated.

That a pretty good description, but can you get a picture?

If the hole it threads into is a blind hole (doesn't go anywhere, nothing flowing through it) it's a knock sensor (sounds about right from your description), next guess would be coolant temp sensor but they're usually by the #1 or #2 fuel injector

First post, but I've been lurking since I bought a ranger last nov.
It had this problem too... the last guy broke it off by accident during some work.

It's definitely a knock sensor, and I had a hard time finding a junkyard ranger that had one (been looking since nov.) Today I found one on a similar year of 4cyl mustang.

I ran without it the last few months, though I wouldn't recommend it. The timing advance/retard was definitely not working right, and was sometimes hard to start. With it replaced I now have an increase in torque and it no longer sounds like it's going to misfire at higher RPM's

Pic for your enjoyment:

Bought an intake manifold for modding this weekend. They only charged me for the manifold but it came with all the sensors, and I don't need them, so if you want the knock sensor it's yours. (I wouldn't feel right charging for it)

Ah, I don't think I have one of those on the 96 but I will know what it is for future reference...thanks!
