after the frame was all cleaned up it was time to role the toyota axle under and see how it will look. the coils are off a 97 ranger 4x4

now it is just sitting there it is not the final location for it

so before work i sat under the truck with the 4 link bars and found out i could not mount them under the fame because i would have no room to turn so i have to build them. i will get the metal asap to get started on that. but i am still working 7 days a week 10 hours a day so time is very short and i just bought a house photos of that will come soon too

cross member

when i started this build i thought that the 4 link would be able to just weld right under the frame, but after i held the links in place i quick found out it would not work. they would get in the way for the tires when turning.?????

so the way that i came up with is to build some heavy dude cross members that will make the frame stronger and be the mounting location for the 4 link. the tranz will be getting one in the near future, but this one took the place of the stock torsion bar mounts. how u cut them off i left as much metal as possible to be use as a gusset to support the new cross member.

this is the stock torsion bar mount the i had to cut off
04302010348.jpg

there is plenty of room for the rear drive shaft so there will be no problems with this down the road

heres what i was thinking for the spring buckets except maybe extend the gussests up top the frame so its all tied together

i cant win with this thing.... 1st it was so tiny u couldnt see it now its way too big haha

4 link install

so i so Sunday off first day off in 5 weeks guess what the first thing i did was???
see the girlfriend
do the running around for the new house
visit all my friends that i have not seen in 5 week
or work on the truck

yep the truck wins. but i got the rest of the week off to do all the running around and saying hi!

so earlier this week i installed the brace that took the place of the stokl torsion bar location

04302010346.jpg

now it was time for the tranny mount to be changed out, the main reason for changing the stock tranny mount was so i could get more ground clearence and for the fact that i wanted to mount the top bars for the four link to it and the stock one was not strong enough to take the forces that will be put though.

not i still wanted this thing to be easy removable so if i ever need to drop the tranny out it could be done easy and quickly, i did not want to have to cut it out and have to weld it in when i am finished so what i did was cut half inch flat plate to bolt in to the stock holes and the the 2 by 4 square tubing to support the tranny and hold the link ends

05022010358.jpg

then from there the link bar start getting mounted on the the new supports

05022010349.jpg

those top bars at 4.5 inch away from the center line they are square they dont look square in the photo because i am on a slight angle

standing under its own power now( look out )

so i got the link ends all tacked into place it is only tacked so i did not stress it by checking the travel.

05042010369.jpg

05042010366.jpg

now i did not like the ranger stock spring mounts, and i have to mount the spring under the frame, so the stock ones would not work any way. i i build my own spring mounts

Seeing that your links arent the same lenght, your pinion angle is going to go some weird stuff to you.

Did I guess it right????

Or did I over look something?

you are right the top links are shorter that the rear links but they are set up to work together. there is no binding and they work fantastic i have not been able to fully test the links though but there is a car show every Wednesday in my town and i would like to get my truck there ( by trailer or course ) but i would like the links to be full welded and the Toyota rear axle to be out in the truck. but the links work great there is a little bit of twist in the axle but very little like 4 or 5 degrees or so

ya but bteween full stuff and droop ur pinion angles going to change. and u really gotta either do a cut and turn or divorced t case cause ur front drivline angles are gonna be ****ed (id do both personally) but a cut and turns free minus the cost of the angle finder)

Yaaaa, the solid axle will be so much better looking and stronger too.

Tourch = FTW

wow guys do an sas for the astonishing good looks :icon_confused:

function>form

not form>function

either way you look it that dropped front cross member kinda scared me
