87 Ford Ranger

Hey I have a 87 Ford ranger and the transmission lost 5th gear. I found a 82 Ranger and is it possible to swap the trans from he 82 to the 87? IF not is there any parts on either that are compatible??

The ranger you found has to be an 83 because there was no 82 Ford Ranger. Replacing the Mazda-built Courier for 1983 was the Ford-built Ranger truck, Introduced early in the 1982 calendar year.

If you have a 87 Ranger with the FM-145 like i do, The tailshafts will be different sizes and therefore you would need to change or modify your drivelines accordingly. Try and find another FM145 if thats the transmission that you have. Just swapping transmissions would be much easier and cheaper than buying drivelines and modifying.

First ID the 5 speed you have now, you can look on the drivers door label, it will have a TRANS code, D or 5
