87 Bronco 2 issues

Had to put another engine in it, also an 87, but I'm using a 92 Ranger brain.
It runs great in my driveway, but it seems to sputter and try to die (sometimes it does) when coming up the hill to my house.
I did manage about a 3-4 mile test drive including up the same hill twice last night with no problems.
Fuel pressure is just over 30 psi.
I got a code 95.
Saw this-

So I put in a pin 8 to the inertia switch and made sure the computer was grounded.
Drove it in my driveway after resetting codes and 95 went away and I got code 96.

Anybody got some ideas?
 
maybe timing is off or u have a bad tfi module

Set the timing to 10* btdc with the spout removed. I'll check it again.
The TFI I had tested 3 times and it passed each time. I have another that tested good too I guess I might as well try it.

I took it for a spin a few nights ago, 14 miles with no problems then the next night it missed a couple times, kept running but wouldn't rev up. I had to creep home at 5-10 mph.
 
The 87 has a knock sensor and egr and a few other differences I am not sure but a 92 computer is not set up for a egr and knock sensor, see if you can get a 87 computer at the bone yard that is set up for your tranny and engine.

I actually have one but I don't want EGR.
 
Did you try it on the new engine it couldn`t hurt In 88 it dont have the egr on the 2.9 in 92 the computer is looking for a maf input I believe.
 
From what I read all you really need is the maf and harness and just add it to the computer connector to gain that input.

So I finally got it to do it in the driveway and got my fuel pressure gauge hooked up and the pressure just slowly falls.
 
How fast does the fuel pressure fall if it is an injector leaking that could cause a rough idle and that plug/s might show a different color, do you get fuel in the regulator vacuum line other than that the check valve in the fuel pump bleeding back into the tank. The 88 computer dont have the egr or maf maybe you could get one at the bone yard for cheap and try that.

It's a pretty steady drop, how fast it drops depends on how open the throttle is. Sometimes it shoots back up right before it dies.
I have no rough idle, it idles a little high, about 1000 rpm.
I figured this was from the IAC since there are different part #'s for EGR and non-EGR 2.9s.
No gas in the vac line. Haynes says crimp the return line and if fuel pressure rises replace the regulator.
Is this correct? Seems if the fuel had no where to go the pressure would rise.
