87 4.0 swap,quick question

I rebuilt the 2.9 two summers ago in my 87 Bronco ii. Well, it took a dump on me wednesday. If its nothing major then ill fix it but I'm tired of putting money into a motor that I don't really like.

What's the easiest 4.0 to swap into an 87 Bii that is a manual shift, manual everything. I have access to a 99 explorer but I don't know any stats on it at the moment, just that its a 99.

I think the easiest swap is the 90-94ish swap. Idk nothing about the 99 4.0. I'm sure of that's the cheap one for you then it's workable lol

that 99 is the sohc right? atleast i know my 01 gen II model explorer was. it can be done but i think with more work. but the easier swap is from 90-94 4.0s out of the explorers. just find one with manual tranny and tcase if you want everything to be manual. yank it all out! good luck!

It could be the sohc, I'm not sure either. I'm on the same track as yall that a 91-94 would be the easiest. Gotta find one quick and get it swapped even quicker, I'm out a job untill I do. So speed is the key.

the tech library has some really good info on the 4.0 swap. check it out if you havent already. its pretty dang close to a bolt in application. it can be done quick if you've done this sort of thing before.
