87 2.9L v6 swap to 91 4.0L v6.

So I have a 87 xlt 4x4 with a 2.9L V6 with a 5 speed transmission and I want to swap it with a 91 sxt 4x4 4.0 V6 with 5 speed transmission engine. If I was to do this what else would I need to change? would it work? and would i need to change the 2.9L 5 speed transmission to the 4.0 or could i keep it?

Yeah, it will work. Fuel lines will need modified, wiring work will have to be done, use the 4.0 trans. The 2.9 one will bolt up, but won't live. That will mean drive shafts need to change as well.

On the bright side if you have both trucks you have everything you need.
