87 2.9 to 91 4.0

I have a 87 Ranger and i am putting in a 91 4.0. I have the whole wiring harness for the 4.0, cab and engine. I have been told that i need to use the steering column from the 91 truck, and the dash. If this is the case could i get away with using a 93 explorer dash and steering column? Will the connections for the gauges and relays be the same? And will the 93 dash fit in to my 87 ranger?

Any advice and thoughts on this would be much appreciated

Yes, you can use the Explorer dash. Yes, it will bolt up.

Yes, the 93 dash will fit in your 87 Ranger. Some holes will line up but not all.

The harness from 1990-1994 trucks / Explorers are the same. The dash and column should work with that combination.

it's definitely not a requirement to swap columns or dash boards. i have an 87 ranger with a 93 4.0 and kept my original dash and column. its definitely doable. it's all up to your preferences, if youd rather have the newer dash and gauge cluster, then by all means...
