I have an 87 ranger which, when i bought used had the small red and green vacuum lines which are part of the egr system disconnected. I eventually realized that the connector with the two red hoses on it goes to this extra chamber below the air box. I have no Idea what this part of the air box is (DPFE maybe)?

Can someone please explain where the connector with both the red and green lines is supposed to be connected, and what these very small vacuum lines do?

The lower "level" of the air box on a 1987 is a vacuum reservoir

that is one of the first parts of the EGR system to go tits-up,
they usually split at the seams and then they don't hold vacuum any more.

yes, the connector in the middle of the red hose is connected to the lower level of the air box

i need to know where the connector on the end of the red and green hoses is supposed to be plugged in to

There should be a diagram on your radiator support.

I no longer have a 2.9 I an look at, but the sticker is intact on my supercab, I'll try to remember to look in the morning.
