87 2.9...but what trans?

It's a five speed manual, but does that make it an M5OD? I saw somewhere that 87 is too early?

Reason I'm asking is this trans whines like a banshee and leaks like a sieve...so I want to fix it but I'm thinking it will probably be cheaper to find a used one.

Anybody know? and btw I tried searching the forum and even got a haynies manual which is no help...

Yes you need to identify what you have before you can properly repair it...you're right.
not sure you found the tech library here at TRS

Lots of good information in the tech library, top of your screen , 3rd tab, click, scrol down to find manual transmission.
