I have an 1987 ranger with a 2.3 EFI. I started it up one day and it idled at 1000 rpms and then it went down to 300 rpms and shut off on its own and i could never start it again after that. Both Fuel Pumps are working and i'm getting plenty of spark, and it sounds like it doesnt even want to fire. Help me out, thanks.

Check the fuel pressure regulator. If it's ruptured and letting too much fuel in it will flood out.

Have you tried starting it while applying part throttle? IAC could have gone bad too.

I tried starting it with part throttle, it doesnt help. I might investigate the timing belt because when it did run it did take awhile to crank over and get it firing. It also feels like it has like 30hp and not all 90, and i changed the fuel filter too.
