ok so i just got an 87 ranger w\2.3 fuel pump was bad put a new one in. tryed to start it and nothing it will spin but will not start timing is set to 10 btdc plenty of spark and plenty of fuel iv been beaten my head on the wall trying to fig. this thing out but by all that i know i should start and run but it just wont. iv tryed to start it on starting spray but still nothing i need some help here till i get this thing fixed im out of work cuz ima pizza guy so with no ride comes no work so i ask all please any info on this thing will be a graet help thanx all

Check your timing belt and the ignition control module.

If it has spark and still wont start on starting fluid it has to be out of time. A few things it has to have to start is air, fuel, spark and all that in time and if all those are present it shoud start. So if it has plenty of fuel pressure at the rail and good spark but still wont start it has to be timing or a fuel injector problem but i would start with timing

checked that twice it is dead on how can i check the injetors cuz so far we have gotten spark but the plugs are still gas fowling but thats what i dont get is the plugs fowl but but i know that i have spark on brandnew plug and its in time

If your plugs are fouling over and over again, you have spark and fuel pressure then the only things it could be in my mind are timing (Check your timing belt), the pressure regulator on the fuel rail, (Remove the vacuum line leading to it and see if smells of fresh gasoline and or is wet with gas. If it does its bad and needs replaced), and check the crank sensor.

Oh its got one...
Its behind the timing cover on the bottom next to the crank pulley.
You have to remove the timing cover to get to it.

ok thanks i had been lead to belive that crank sensor were only on cars with coil packs insted of distributors thanks for all of your help as soon as i get aride to the truck i will look in to that
