Ive been a lurker here for several years now, great site. Finally decided to join.
I recently bought a 1986 ranger xlt 4x2. Flared fenders front and back, bed removed, custom long travel front beams. The previous owners let the truck sit for about a year and when they went to start it they found out that the fuel tank had water in it and was filled with rust. So the rust was pumped all the way up to the fuel injectors since they had removed the fuel filter
. They had a shop replace the sending unit, the fuel tank, and the inline fuel pump, but decided to call it quits when the shop told them they needed to rebuild the injectors for $300. Anywho I bought the truck for $250 (seller also paid the $534 of back registration fees for me
) towed it home, pulled the injectors, stuck them in some chemtool in my ultrasonic cleaner for an hour. Put em back in and she started right up. Actually its the best running 2.9 I've had or seen.
Now for the problem. The engine wiring harness had no sheathing on it whatsoever, so I pulled it and re-wrapped it with split loom and some expensive electrical tape. now the truck will start and run fine, but as soon as you shut it off it wont start again for several hours. When it's cranking it doesn't even attempt to fire, like the ignition coil is unplugged. I've checked the fuel pressure at the check valve on the fuel rail and it is fine. I am absolutely stumped on this one. Anyone got any ideas?
