gonna just do a rattle can paint job. debating on od green or like a satin beige/khaki color. either way the trim is going to be black. opinions?

this is the truck now. has some surface rust on the hood and roof. and a few small dents and dings. im gonna take care of the rust but the dents and dings i could care less about.

Khaki/Desert tan... everyone does OD.

haha thats exactly what i was thinking. thought it would stand out a bit more in a khaki color. and i thought the black trim would look/stand out more on it then the od.

x2 on the khaki. instead of black, how about a Rustoleum color called "Charcoal Green". it's a dark gray/green color that comes in semi gloss and you could put a clear matte coating over it to flatten it out and protect it. that is what my bumper guard and rear bumper have on it. next summer, it will be on the wheels and front bumper. just different enough from the usual flat black to make it custom and attractive with the khaki.
just a thought.

btw... Nice looking Ranger!!!

I think you can go both ways. Both look great. My preference is the OG and black. I love the look of it on a 1st gen. But, that Khaki would be a very nice look as well.

Good luck

thanks. ill definitely keep that in mind.

anybody have any experience going to one day paint. kinda iffy on painting it myself cause i screwed up last time i tried to paint a car. or does anybody have tips on rattle can paint.

I painted the box on my truck with a few cans and it seems to be holding up well...you might want to prep the old paint with a light sanding before putting it on though...

As for the paint itself...warm weather helps it to dry, and spraying about 4 to 12" from the surface is best depending on wind conditions...if you're outside that is...and if you do two coats instead of trying to get it perfect on one it usually works out better...

I won't post pics of my truck until it's painted again...but it looks OK...especially when it's dirty or dark out...

ill give it a try. whats the worst thats gona happen? i screw it up? i can screw it up soon as i go have some fun :D eh i need to finish the mechanical problems first.

They did make a black plastic grille, might be easier to snag one than to try to get paint to stick to your chrome one.

Personally I went the other way and will never go back.

that black plastic one sounds like a good idea. ill keep an eye out for one.

if you use flat colors imperfections from your rattle cans won't be nearly as noticeable as when using gloss paints. i've done it before and the results were more than decent really.

yeah... either way i like that flat better. i think flat colors are more out there. everyone has a car with a shine to it. i want to have something nicely painted with no shine.
