'86 Ranger Alternator Wiring

Thanks a lot for your help on this, I had it running for the first time Friday night. I didn't have much draw on the system (just the piddly point ignition) but the ammeter was tad over the right. :yahoo:

Never did hook the white wire to anything.

It is in the barn for the winter now, we will see how it likes it when I hook the lights up next spring.
so you ended up leaving the white wire unattached and it working out? i’ve got 87 ranger and the pig has the 2 thick black wires with the new alternator having the 2 black and 1 one white

I have read in recent years that wire puts out lower voltage for electric choke. It took me a bit to remember what that thread was about. After I put the Explorer belt system on my Ramger I upcycled the alternator to a old tractor. It worked great until two faulty voltmeters conspired to make me replace it.
