I have a 86 ranger with a 2.9L v6 thats miss firing at idle, sluggish on hills, and not the best gas mileage. its been diagnosed as a notorious fuel injector problem with the 2.9L. i've tried lucas, gum out, and a couple other injector cleaners and isnt helping the problem. my injectors are loud and ticking like somethings not right. anyone know what else i can try to get them to spray like they are supposed to? any help appreciated.

can you help me out?

hey bro we have basically the same truck. i don;t get the best gas mileage myself. i haven't thought of fuel injectors being the cause of that.

what do you mean it misfires at idle? my truck isnt sluggish on hills but it does give a noticeable shake when at idle and then settles back again only to repeat the process. is this a symptom of bad injectors? anything you've heard of that can improve gas mileage with this truck?

thanks bro!:headbang:

How was it diagnosed? What exactly did they say that was wrong?

It sounds like it could just need a tune up. Filters, plugs, wires, cap, rotor...All that stuff.

Have you checked for codes yet?

I've already done all ignition components but injectors are loud. i know they need cleaned, just not sure which cleaner will work. there are tsb's about injectors on this specific engine with its fuel injection just dont want to pay dealer for theirs if there is an aftermarket cleaner that will work.

In that case, try something by chevron. Their injector cleaners are the only ones that ever made a difference at all for me in the past. Even that difference wasn't much though.

I know that most shops have an injector cleaning system that circulates the cleaner through the injectors. The car runs on it until the car dies. Then they hook the fuel back up and hopefully the car runs better.

Other than that, the best thing to do is replacement or what Earl43P posted. http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/?p=82
