Yes they can just take a dump.

you can remove and have them tested at your favorite Auto parts store.
Most test them for free....can't vouch for all of them...but most will.

there is also relays and inline fuses to concider if it doesn't have spark or no fuel.

It run good up to 50mph then starts cut out just on power. This is after it warms up mileage has droped off from 20 to 15mpg.

Im having the same problem with mine too it runs like crap and shut downs for no reason. I'm going to replace the tfi and see if that's the problem

I have ckecked for codes and come with nothing.I am going to replace the tfi

If that cures it... Great.
Just don't suprised if it doesn't....could be a simple fuel filter plugged too.

bad ground & or any multiple of combination of things vacuum leaks and bad grounds

have you checked the fuel pressure?

This all started when my fuel reg went out it had 90lbs pressure.I had ford replace the filter, reg, cap rotor wires and clean the inj.at what that cost I can replace alot of parts.I have 35lbs fuel pressure now.I have replace all the sensor and check the grounds all looks good.I think I will pull the pos.cable off
and clear the comp.at this point I will try any thing.

AHH...so now we get Paul Harvey...the rest of the story.:icon_bounceblue:

any other info you care to share??....hate to sound or come across harsh, or curt. We really can't help unless more/all information is disclosed so in turn to help you.:icon_thumby:

can you ask if they replaced both fuel filters? these units possibly had 2

you may have a exhaust restriction...either cat's or muffler

have you done a compresssion check?

I did check the the cats for back pressure they are ok.I had 5lbs before and after the cats.I did replace the dis.(it was comp with all new parts)and that give me back all my power I did find play in the shaft.I can find only one fuel reg.But my fuel mileage is steel down 13.5 to 15mpg.
