Just did head gasket on my truck as I got it with blown headgasket I don't know if this is a ore exsisting problem to me owning it. I'll be driving and truck will randomly die or start sputtering like its out of gas it does it at random times. When it dies it'll either start on first try or second. Truck has been sitting sense 07' but the old lady (original owner) said her or her son would go start it ever once in awhile. Any help would be appreciated this is my daily and the stalling is getting annoying.

Could be a number of things, but one of the first things I'd suspect is the fuel pump. Had five of the in-tank pumps go south on me with my 89 Ford Tempo with similar symptoms. It was particularly more apt to happen if the weather was warm. Winter never saw the problem but as soon as it warmed up it would do it sporadically for a few times and start right away after sitting a few minutes. Eventually it would simply not start...

Could also be the inertia switch is being triggered by a bump or jolt that otherwise seems like nothing happened (with good suspension)...then a bit down the road and the car/truck dies because the fuel pump has been shut down by the inertia switch...

Truck is bone stock ill look for the inertia switch see if its not being jarred or have a loose wire. I guess ill get a new pump and filter and see if issue goes away thank you for help

No problem...hope it helps...

You may have two fuel pumps in your truck...one in tank and one on the rail...not sure but they stopped putting the one in the tank on some...maybe need to clarify that if you are not sure...don't want to see you throw money at parts that are not going to help...many of us on here have been there and done that...

If you can afford to though, it's always nice to simply replace parts that are getting near the end of their life cycle...

Yea unfortunately after tearing onto my truck ive come to relize that other then interior and body being almost flawless. The old lady was a gas and goeryou know those people who just put gas on and go no maintenance =\

Mark: I have an 86 just like mini's except a lot rougher shape and it has two pumps.

Mini: Hi neighbor. If you decide to go after the fuel tank pump, I'm willing to lend a hand. Easiest method I've heard so far is to do some wiring disconnects for tail lights, six T-55 Torx bolts, the screws for the filler neck to the tank, then lift with help the bed off. Makes getting at fuel gauge sender/lp pump much easier than dropping the tank.
