86 gen 1 sas build

when you work w/ my dad... you learn weird old school tricks that sometimes work! lol

instead of using a bit (killing a tool) you can weld a bolt to the torx.. find bolts that fit inside the "t55" hole.. weld them in, then use whatever size wrench fits the bolts you welded in there.

there may be some trail and error process in this, so don't mess up the head bolts to bad. i'd try a different t55 and try to find a t52 first.

Best part is; when people find out I'm saying all these weird crazy tricks... Then they find out I'm only 21. I've always liked working with older guys doing mechanic work-- they know all the cool tricks. So I try to learn all I can. The welding a torx bit in a bolt was shown to me by an older guy that worked at international truck mechanic shop. We destroyed a bit... But we got the bolts out.

problem solved!

i went to fisher auto and told them whats going on, got head studs and a new torque bit set and checked the fit. the t55 fit the new ones so i went back home and it fits the old ones. :yahoo:
tip of the day........ DONT BUY SHITTY TOOLS FROM MENARDS!!!!!
ill never buy masterforce tools again!
these freakin heads are coming off TODAY!
Thanks for all the help guys!

lol yeah, cheap-ish tools can be the death of some work.

That 2.9 looks great inside!

I can also vouch for the T55. It should work..Not sure why you're having troube with it unless someone has been in there?

sounds like the t55 he had was bigger than a t55.... it was a messup tool from the company.

Yeah I just read that. See what happens when you leave a tab open and don't refresh it before posting? lol..

Heads are off!

looks good. i've seen better, but i've seen LOTS worse.

This is the first time its been cracked open since it was built in 86. its got 213,000 miles on it. id say AWESOME!

well in that case..... WOW! lol...
ford builds some good motors; the owners just have to care for them properly!

honestly coils v.s. leafs is a never ending argument. i even argue with myself on a regular basis which one is better. built, driven, and wheeled both in the rbv chassis and all i can say is that i love my coils but if i had flat top knuckles (steering clerance is an issue) i would most likely have leafs on my truck right now. i can say the leaf setup was alost cheaper to build

both trucks cruise down the highway just bout the same considering they are both on 37's only mine are bias and alot wider. i can cruise 65 all day semi comfortably however i would never put my wife behind the wheel on the highways as you definately have to pay attention at all times and your hands get sore holding the wheel since the 14 wides love to follow low spots in the road.

and for flex they score pretty close to the same on a 30deg ramp

New parts!

I got the rod bearings, main bearings, cam bearings, and piston rings today..... ouch but ishould have this engine built by the 6th. All I need to put it in the truck is the exaust bolts.very soon it will be running again and that means I can start on the front d44.:yahoo:

Update

i made some progress today. I walked in my garage and ive realized i have been neglecting to clean up behind me and it was a disaster. After the cleaning i got the block stripped, ridges reamed, and all of my parts together. tomorrow i hope to get the block and heads cleaned and ready for paint. (still thinking of what color or colors to use).:icon_confused:
