86 electronic t-case problem

I am looking into buying a 86 extended cab 4x4 ranger with auto Hubs and electronic 4 wheel ingage on the roof of the cab above the reveiw mirror. The truck has the EFI 2.9 and a rancho lift (4'' I think) already installed. But when you Push to ingage the four wheel ddrive nothing happens. I am just trying to find out what or where I should start looking for the problem or at least have a pretty good idea of what I am getting into befor I buy the Truck. Any help would be get. Thanks.
