Spent the morning driving around to a couple a places as well as looking at the so called horrible hurricane we got. Stopped somewhere to do some picking and when we went to leave she started, drove off fine but when we got about 200' up the road she started shuttering, when I tried to throttle her up there was nothing and she just quit. Put back in neutral started and when I tried to put her in 1st and start off again same thing lots of shuttering hoping when I would press the gas. She would run in neutral but not in gear tried again and managed to nurse her about another 300' up the road til she finally quit and now won't start at all. I am not sure if it is the distributor cap is wet, the fuel pump finally took a crap or the cut off switch got wet in the storm (the roof is chopped). Please anyone any help so I can at least nurse her home. She is about 11 miles from home.... I am pulling my hair out and about to just strap C4 to the bottom of her and be done with it (mind you we literally just replaced the Trans and Transfer Case on Thursday. I know she is in need of a tune up but well the Trans and Transfer Case have me broke at the moment.

Thanks ahead of time,

Becky

Also to add to this the fuel filler neck has had a small crack in it put a piece of duct tape on it for now to hold it. Also we just recently put a locking gas cap on it because we have some issues in the neighborhood of people stealing gas. Also the gas gauge only seems to work some of the time. Hell I filled it up yesterday and drove it to dinner. Then when we went out today the gauge read 1/2 a tank. I know its not the case but when we stopped at a gas station I put fuel in it to see what it would take, 2 gallons. So the fuel gauge is clearly an issue but really just became an issue today.

did you relocate that funny little electrical box behind the drivers seat when you did the chop top? If it gets wet...well....... things could happen. It is behind a little door in the side molding inside cab just behind drivers seat, just opposite of jack that is behind a little door behind passenger seat.

We looked and our did not have one. When we read the forum on chopping a top it said you may or may not have one and we were fortunate for that but this not so much. I also posted a thread in the BII forum as well.

Crappy as hell fuel filter? sounds kinda like no fuel situation to me

1st check your basic. Fuel spark and air. Check for Fuel at the rail. It should shoot out strong under pressure from the pump. Check your fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose for any traces of wet gas. If any are present the regulator is bad. Take a plug out, ground it to the block and check for a nice white/blue spark.
Check your cap and rotor button.

So here is the latest..... She has spark.... The fuel pumps do work (we hard wired them just to verify) the fuel pump relay however was not working do replaced that still no go so we started working backwards, replaced the ICM still no go, now the next in line really is the ECM (or EEC) and well not 100% on that one my husband had sprayed some spray foam insulation down around the computer and well some did get into the plug so not sure if with all this wet weather we have had lately the foam absorbed moisture and fried the computer. Any ideas???

if its the eec, it shouldnt run at all. my guess is you have a clogged fuel filter. sounds like its starving for gas. drop a little down the carb and see if it fires up.

It fires right up with starter fluid through the intake.... She is fuel injected....

Plus until I figure out why the fuel pump relay is not kicking on it will never get fuel so yes it is starving....

Check the 20 gauge blue fuse link located on the yellow wire leading to the fuel pump relay. The relay is located in the ( driver side ? ) fire wall. Some times they blow and leave you scratching your head checking other things.
It will look like a rubber coated tube in line with the yellow wire. If its blown it will look swelled out. Like a hot dog that's only plumped up on one end or something.

As well there is a Red 18 gauge fuse link on the small red wire coming from the starter motor. It changes from a red wire to a yellow wire directly after the fuse link.
If thats blown you wont have power to the fuel pump relay, the EEC power realy or the ECA. check the connection on the red wire at the starter motor as well.

Both of the suggestions above will only register hot during run or start.

Thanks that is a great idea.... I got a ECM from a junkyard today just in case..... Headed to where it is sitting when my husband gets off work so am praying that fixes it...... But will check the wires too....
