86 Bronco II... G-Unit

I was really going for the horse power gains anything red adds...

Not sure why I didn't knock the sending unit outta this tank before today. Shame on me.

Gonna go shopping for a new sending unit without pump... if they sell them that way.

So drinking coffee this morning on the deck... I modified my new fuel sending unit to accept the high pressure in tank pump. I had to shorten the tube by about 3/4 inch. I also had to modify the fuel pump support by cutting a small section out to accept the tank filter design. While it certainly altered the integrity of the support it certainly didn't hurt it enough to harm function... it's still pretty robust.

The fuel filter is held in place with a small push on retainer clip... with the sweat pouring in my eyes (it's really hot and humid today) I managed to drop the damn clip a couple times. I have found it each time and gonna try again after I cool off. It's just a stubborn son of a gun. But the filter slide all the way up on the pick up and should work good.

You do nice work.
I like the red highlights on the filter tube -- matches the tank :)

Haters gonna hate...

That tiny retainer was a true challenge... it really doesn't help that my right thumb... after being cooked during radiation treatments... still isn't right. I lost some feeling and don't have the usual dexterity I'm use to. It also damaged the nail bed and I have a nail coming in under the nail so it just plain hurts to put pressure on it. But I finally grabbed my hollow punch set and got it to go.

Tidy up the wiring and add a couple zip ties. Gonna sweep the sender with my Fluke and power the pump for a split second with my Power Probe then it's going in the tank.

What did 50 cent say to his grandmother when she knitted him a sweater? "G U Knit?"

That new sender and pump looks way better than the old one. No wonder you needed a new tank! What did he have the old one filled with? Swamp water?

Swamp gas?

The PO said he drained fuel and added 5 gallons of fresh fuel. I drained like 4 gallons and added 4 gallons. Drove around a little and the plugs just loaded up on that old crap. I think it's just from sitting around inop for close to 15 years.

What's funny too... is that tank would build some serious pressure just sitting there. But the tank vent grommet was sloppy and you can see where it had been leaking.

I put a new grommet and vent valve... also new Motorcraft filler cap and blew through the vent line... so I guess we will see what happens.

The pump and sender tested good... so it went in and locked down with a new seal and lock ring. Not much more I can do in there.
