86 2.9 issues

Well my 86 2.9 has been running good and then last night while driving it started running horribly. While driving as long as you stay under 2000 rpms it runs find but as soon as you go over it starts sputtering and jerking. Also sometimes it does it when it's idling it jerks and sputters and when you rev it it sounds like there is a popping in the muffler. I dont know what could have happened.

Have the exhaust checked. Faulty catalytic converter possibly?

No i havent tried codes. I dont have a computer and our local parts store is closed. Can you even pull codes from an 86? When i worked at advance several years ago if it was older than 97 we didnt mess with.

Yes you can pull codes. You can use a voltmeter to do so, tho code readers are dirt cheap nowadays @ ~$10-$20. I think there is a write up in the tech section.

Ok I'll have to check it out I want to run a new exhaust from the headers back anyways but I don't have the funding for that right now. I'm gonna try and eliminate some things before I go spend money.
