Fun fun...

Gold star for Oreilly's! New on left, old on right.

I can kinda see why the sender was flaky. As far as cleaning it the contact board is like part of the plastic as in I can't actually feel the metal. Pump is shot anyway and the contact assembly looked a lot better on the wrong pump.

Went back into town and it was the same crap I get to deal with anywhere.

"well the only other pump I show is a Delphi, it is another $60 and it is a special order so freight will be an extra $20 and it is a week out"

Me having already looked it up on my phone before I left the house:

"How about the same part number as this one but ending in 35?"

"Ok, that one also fits, is $10 cheaper than what you are returning and I can have it Wednesday"

Only reason I went with them is the lifetime warranty and they are everywhere in case it lays down on me on the road. Which leads me into my next deal.

One thing that has always made me queasy with these aftermarket in tank pumps... if they die you are dead right there if you can't thump it back to life. And it is a rather messy affair to swap the pump on a whim.

Well the old Holley pump hasn't missed a beat since its one glitch, I kinda wonder if it had a piece of something it or something. So when i redid the wiring to switch back to a in tank pump I put a connector on the wiring going to the in tank pump... and on the Holley perched on the frame. So if the in tank conks out on the road I cut the hoses and switch them to the Holley, plug the wiring into it and keep going. Maybe to the hotel parking lot, maybe back home. I like having that fallback/spare for something so critical.

I need to run a new ground for the pump and switch the fuel lines around yet... but I got until Wednesday.

I need to research a better speaker setup but it is so nice to have music in the garage. And not just background noise but something fun to listen to. We found this station out of Toledo on our way to the 20th and it has had a home on my Iheart thing ever since. Commercials are not bad and good music.

Both my helper and I enjoyed it, "Pickup Man" came on which is one of his favorites... of course he didn't help much today because he had something pretty serious going on over there.

Your Jerry Cans turned out nice. Its been a while since I used Evaporust and seems like it does a great job. White vinegar does a great job as well.

Your new fuel pump assembly looks shorter then the original. I ran into that one time and was only getting half a tank use out of it. I really dont have problems with in tank pumps as long as you keep them at least an 1/8th tank full for cooling the fuel pump. Slowly catching up on your thread. Congrats on your truck turning 40. I remember them when they were new.

Yeah, I need range. Half a tank ain't gonna cut it.

The one I am replacing is 5yo, pump worked for 3 years and the level sender for four. Possible cause of death for the pump, undersized lock ring wouldn't stay in place which isnt great when I live on a gravel road.

Another thing that would probably help is if I got a pressure regulator with a return so the pump isn't deadheading against my non return one.

Facebook has good deals on stereo systems every now and then. I picked up a stereo, cassette player, 50 disc cd player, equalizer, cabinet, and 2 tower speakers for $150.

Looks like he is about the get the problem figured out. Those little helpers do not stay little for long.

Fuel pump was finally delivered:

Test the level sender right off, looks great.

Sitting on the garage floor playing with the sender with the door open... kinda getting looking up into a semi truck cab vibes...

New packing is a lot bigger than my last one.

I get so sick of these lock rings, most are undersized so they dont catch all the tabs reliably.

So I reused the one I special ordered from Rockauto a year ago because the locking ring kept coming loose on me. It seems just a hair bigger than most.

Lifted into place, such a relief to get at least one strap on. Rear is always a fight with the driveshaft in the way of everything.

And its all back together. I didn't try to start it but it runs nice and quiet and has pressure at the carb.

Oliver needs a NAPA hat when he's doing parts deliveries.

I recently fought a gas tank seal and yes they can be a pain. Great job getting the tank in and fuel gauge working. That guessing how much is in the tank is not fun.

On the road wasn't bad, pull over every 200 miles and dump 11gal in it and go.

The Vagabond trip going at 2 to 70mph all day... who knows where you are at.

Recently the front speakers have kinda gotten bad. Hard to make out the stereo... and if you remember I have the GMRS radio plumbed into them... really wasn't super clear last fall for that matter.

The old Polk speakers were pretty old, circa 2001 or 2002 by my recolection.

So I snagged a cheap set of Kenwoods from Amazon.

I snagged some adaptor rings at the JY a few years ago, they adapt the speakers to the goofy 3 hole bolt pattern Ford used to mount the original speakers

Found the original grilles I had stashed away... they have been stashed longer than they were on the truck at this point lol

I also checked my header bolts, figured while I was there and I was looking at them I might as well throw plugs in it as well. They all looked pretty good, I will run them thru the cleaner and stash them for spares.

Popped the lockouts off snd eyed the front wheel bearings. Greased the front end checked everything under the hood.

After all the rain @mc_raptor_820 has been ordering to add spice to the Midwest Discovery Route... I decided to swap my jerry can for the traction boards.

I also checked the winch to make sure it still did winch things.
