85 Ranger getting some teeth...

Look for an accellerator cable bracket off an early 70's 302. Should bolt right on and line up perfectly.

Thanks, that gives me something to go on. :icon_thumby:

Edit:

Some paint did kinda help the looks of it for now...

The early 70's bracket is what I used on my 89's 302. Don't recall exactly what it came off of though, but you're looking for something off a 68-76 or so 302/351W. The one I used worked on a Performer RPM, Ford A321, and a stock 2 bbl iron intake that was on it when I sold it earlier this week. Lots of people threw these small parts away, I never did. Sold a lot of this stuff on ebay a few years back. Didn't get rich, but did make a good bit of pocket change selling this stuff for $15-25 a pop. Accellerator Brackets, timing pointers, vacuum tees, carb spacers, etc.

I had one at one time. I remember thinking "I am going to need this" and putting it somewhere so I wouldn't lose it... of course now I can't remember where that was. :bawling:

It cranks :yahoo:

BTW to anyone else doing this, don't assume that the neutral start switch pigtail will stay back where the transmission goes... mine didn't make the cut when I hacked all the extra crap out. I got my brother to help me check wires and we got it fixed.

Just have the tranny cooler lines to hookup, going to whirl it over until we get oil pressure and check for leaks. Then I have a single fuel line to hook up to the fuel pump, stick the front dress on and start.

I turned the key switch. Deep inside her belly the Ranger groaned, a straining rumble sounding for all the world like a giant dynamo coming alive. Ahead of me the crankshaft pulley turned slowly, then began to move faster as the 302 gained in power. The rumble increased in pitch, the pulley became a blur. Suddenly the cranking and rumbling vanished, to be replaced by a tremendous, throaty roar, a bass of power such as I'd never heard. I cracked the pedal forward a fraction of an inch and the truck sang of power, a symphony of thunder, alive and ready to howl at the slightest movement of my foot.

Thanks, to be honest I found that back in the early 2000's in high school doing a report on the P-47 Thunderbolt. It stuck with me because it was just so cool. It took me forever to find it again for this and it altered really well to fit my application.

BTW, it started right off and ran as smooth as glass. With just 18" of flexpipe on each header it isn't really all that loud. Virtually no smoke and 60lbs of oil pressure. I didn't have the front dress on it or any coolant in it so we couldn't run it all that long though. I am stoked enough I could have had it streetable by sunup aside from the driveshafts and efans (which I dont' have) but I gotta go to work tomorrow :bawling:

Copped a chub didnt you.............dont lie..........

To be honest I don't know, I didn't even think to look at the tach. My brother who was playing with the timing had to yell at me to check the pressure.

I was just in utter shock how easy it started and how well it ran. :shok:

way to go been following this thread. it is going to be alot more fun than that 2.8 weezer

It has already been more fun. :icon_thumby:

All the things I have done to this thing and how well it is going so far (dunno about the tranny yet) is amazing. This is my first real build, I have done a lot of maintenance stuff (valve seals and duraspark conversion on the 2.8 was about as extreme as I have gotten) but nothing like what I have done on my 302.

Good to hear that it's up and going! Once you've made all of the obvious mistakes working on things over the years, things seem to get a lot easier to get running! :D
