85 Ranger getting some teeth...

that uses a sensor in the coolant port of the intake.:icon_cheers:

It is already occupied with the temp gauge sender though. I only have the one port...

Install a pipe "T" in that port. You can get pipe fittings in various metals, like brass and stainless. You can also get t=stat housings that have a port in the top of the T to use for a sensor. That flexalite kit looks a lot like the POS kit I used from the parts house. Just me, but I'd avoid it like the plague. It didn't turn the fans on half the time. It's cheaper than the Painless kit, but the price difference won't pay for a ruined engine. The Painless kit has never failed to turn the fans on mine.

I had always heard that you didn't want to "T" temp senders. Anyways I am going to miss my pretty chrome thermostat housing but I got a plain aluminum one with a sender port.

Still trying to decide on fan, just not sure if the one I previously liked will fit. It is 3.5" thick (I assume/hope to the motor bearing support) and I only have 3.25" to work with. Trying to decide from the pic if I have 1/4"+ some wiggle room to work with if I offset it in there or not...

I drilled and tapped the thermostat housing , and put the dash gauge sender there. Also drilled and tapped at least three corners of my lower intake manifold (Temp gauge, efan swithch, ECT). The stock HO lower was drilled and tapped already in all four corners.

Polish that mug :D

I painted it aluminum to match my intake and it is already installed. Actually it kind of fits the theme better now.

I am only short one port now, I am just going to put a T in the heater hose so I don't have a dead gauge (that isn't all that accurate anyway) on the dash. I have my mechanical guage sender in the intake that I will trust a whole lot further.

On this crude carburated engine, I just need my mechanical guage, dash gauge and fan sender.

The heat and push in method failed miserably on the heater box. The sharp curve that hit the valve cover wanted to crease and fold over when it was pushed in. I pushed it back out and tried it again... then it just split. It also reeked of mouse pee when I got it warm which added to the experiance.

So I got out the dremel and started cutting to make it fit just to see what it would take, I hacked and hacked and it still doesn't fit worth a darn. This is it without the offending piece.

The thing is hidious and hides half the motor, I am going to strip the resistor block and blower motor and chuck it.

Going to make a U-Pull-It run tomorrow for a non-A/C box and some other stuff (C5 4WD linkage, later fillable overflow bottle, interior door pull handles)

I also pulled the little panel off that goes under the grille (really fun when two clip nuts break) and drilled holes to mount my tranny cooler. I also fixed something that has bugged me for years... the stupid angle the stock tranny cooler is mounted at. I measured it at about 8 degrees... why? Make the dang thing straight like everything else on the truck... Anyway my 7-1/2x12 cooler will fit really nice under the stock cooler.

The driveshafts should be done Monday (they are rarely on time) so hopefully I can get the mud thrown off the tires soon. :yahoo:

I am starting to catch flack that they are going to need the room (spring planting and hay equipment is already coming in) so it will probably be getting a trailer ride home sometime next week. It will chill there for awhile until funding recovers so I can get an exhaust put on it.

Good call. The non-ac box is much smaller, and does not have the big piece at all. I'm sure you know this, but look for '94 and older.

You're close to driving!

Another possibility to check into for another port is the adapter that threads into your intake manifold for the heater hose. Some of these have a threaded port if you can find the right one.

Yup, got one out of a '83 in the back of the '150 awaiting installation in the morning. I was kind of surpised it was the only non-ac box on the lot. Worked out fine, a base XL 4cyl 4spd truck gave me TONS of room to work with.

I also found the mythical C5 4wd linkage (different truck). :yahoo:

Fans are due Tuesday I think, so maybe roadworthy (pending exhaust) Wedesday?? Sounds like a goal anyway...

Another Crown Vic/towncar/marquis FEAD user.:icon_thumby: This seems to be almost a popular setup for swaps as the Explorer FEAD now.

I just heated it with a heatgun and pushed it in. It doesn't look as perfect in real life as it does in the pictures, but unless you do a headstand in the middle of the engine bay and specifically at it it looks fine. The JY blower and resister work perfectly too, I am going to just put mine up for spares.

I also picked up a C5 shift linkage for my t-case. I still need the little lever that goes on the t-case itself though.

This is what it looks like now.

What years can I pull a "heat only" box from to fit a '93?

Does it bolt on using existing mounting points (bolts)?
