Hello all

I was replacing my radio in my 85 ranger, and found that the two plugs do not match the ones that were supplied with my adapter kit. They said they would send another one that matched the picture I sent. I’m curious if these are the plugs for an 85 or if maybe the changed the plugs mid year and they would match an 86. (P below)

also does anyone know what this leads to? My ignition power wire pulls about 2-5 volts when the key is not turned, and even when the wire is disconnected it still pulls power. It’s spliced into these two red wires, one runs to the antenna, and the other to this board which I do not know the function. (picture below)

thanks all

Well the Black connector has "E9" part number which is 1989
E = 198
9 = 9

It should have E5 or older, i.e. E4 or E3
Ford only updates the year when part changes enough to warrant a new number
But you wouldn't find an 1989 part in a 1985 vehicle unless part was changed

The part in the back of picture looks like a voltage regulator most likely 5v power supply for dash, so would show 5v or so until it was drained, even after battery was unhooked

Radios can need constant 12v from battery, this holds presets and clock time if radio is electronic not manual with no clock function

So the previous owner must have changed the wiring around. Because Crutchfield is sending me a new harness that matches, and it fits an 86.
