I recently bought an 85 Bronco II with the 2.8 engine. It started overheating so I changed the water pump and am ready to put the thermostat in. The previous one was in the upper housing but Chiltons says it goes in the lower housing. However, Chiltons picture shows it being placed in the upper. I'm confused...where does the thermostat go - in the upper or in the lower ??

It was a midyear change for '85. Early is down low late is at the top.

Do you have the two piece water neck fitting on the intake manifold. If it is only one piece the thermostat goes in the lower housing from the lower radiator hose.
