Alright trs friends, I'm about to do the 85 bronco II 7.5 to a 92 ranger 8.8 and from my time on this site I know its about a bolt in affair. But I am double checking my sources and seeing if I am overlooking anything. Both axles are open difs, drum breaks, I'm just stepping up (or down ) to 4.10 gears. Lucky break for me since I chewed up my ring and pinion gears in the 7.5...any advice or pointers would be much appreciated.

tech library man.. search button..
but you'll have to flip the spring perches from bottom to top and a little more.
search 8.8 swap and see how many results you get

No need to "flip" the perches (they're already on top), but they are a little closer together on a Ranger axle vs. a BII, so you'll still need to move them regardless.

Also the 8.8" pinion flange is bigger, so you'll have to mod your driveshaft a bit.

oh sorry, forgot it was from a ranger..

yeah dont need to flip them but the perches on the ranger will have to be moved out wider

Warning! The entire axle drum to drum is 3 inches narower on the Ranger rear axle than the B2 axle. I found out the hard way:annoyed:

Yea I have read over the articles in the tech library, I almost overlooked the spring perches...thanks junkie. Give me a couple of weeks to find the time and I'll have it swapped in...now to find the Dana 35 to match... Thanks for the help guys

is there measurements written down somewhere? I've got a 8.8 and d35 I'm looking to swap in, but I dont remember what they came out of.

From the Axles forum FAQ:

RBV axles have the following widths at the flanges:
'83-'90 D28 front = 58"
'90up D35 front = 59.5" (both TTB & SLA)
'83-'92 Ranger rear axle = 56.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
'93up Ranger rear axle = 58.5" (7.5 & 8.8)
Bronco II rear axle = 58"
Explorer rear axle 59.5"
