I have a 85 2.3 that is poping though the air box. It is missing on no. 4 cyl. It is getting fire on the cylinder but not sure about fuel. The truck has sit for about 3 years, could it be a valve?

compression test

to see if it's a mechanical problem.Try switching plugs with another cyl could just be a bad plug.

I installed new plugs and wire, still missing. How can i check the injector?

have you tried this? You use a volt meter to check resistence pull plug and touch terminals. An 85 is it injected or carbed?:icon_confused:

I believe the 2.3 recived EFI in 85. So if you have a carb then he has a 2.0, if no carb then he has a 2.3

it is fuel injected, checked fuel it is getting fuel. Im wondering if the lifter could be stuck?

Possible

Have you checked for codes? Could be a bad lobe on cam also,:icon_confused:

I've seen that happen

I pulled the valve cover to discover a rocker arm off.

I just tore down a mid 80's 2.0L that was "not running right"..it had a cam slider laying alongside the valve and HLA. Oil was REALLY dirty...maybe the lifter couldn't pump up?....if so it wouldn't take very many rpms' to bleed it dry and let the slider pop loose if the specs were sloppy...they can come out with a rubber mallet when loose..

The oil was extremely nasty in this truck as well as alot of fuel, the p.o had been trying to start it for awhile.

Diesel flush

is what I'd try fix the problem put it back together drain the old oil and fill with diesel fuel and new filter start it let it reach norm temp "NO HARD REVING" drain fill with new oil "10w40 OR 20w50 my choice on high mile motors" and filter and hopefully you'll be good to go.GOOD LUCK!:icon_welder:
