Over the past few months I have noticed the needle in the speedo "sticks" and is slow moving. Would only do it on colder mornings but once warmed up, it acted normal. Now it does it 9 out of 10 times. Can be doing 60 but speedo is reading 34, eventually it will climb to 60. Does the same slowing down too be in 2nd gear about 20ish mph, and needle is at 60. What should I be looking at to fix this problem to get the speedo working properly again?

worn or corroded speedo cable that allows moisture in and sticks on cold days. Also check that it is fitted firmly into the tail housing of transmission if 2wd or transfer case if 4x4

If it is the cable how much of a pain is it to change? I can hear something under the dash in the area of the cable, that I'm assuming is the cable rubbing in the shroud.

Not a pain at all. Get on Rock auto and find the correct length for a replacement and simply unplug at the rear of the speedometer, pull it through the firewall grommet, and unscrew the clamp on the tail housing that keeps it located on the drive gear then remove and replace. Inspect your driven gear that attached to the end of your speedo cable by a small metal c clip and make sure wear is tolerable. YouTube university will provide extra info if needed
