'84 Little blue Ranger in Oregon - Mild off-road project

very clean =) nice engine btw

Thank you! I intend to make it a nice, clean looking engine bay.

looks like fun. looking at the pics of the motor reminded me that i learned how to rebuild a motor with a 2.3L. good luck with the build.

Thanks, I’m looking forward to starting everything for sure. I definitely love how simple and well designed these engines seems to be. Simple inline engines are my favorite!

Haha, yeah maybe eventually if I can find some deals on good parts… I don’t have the money for that right now though. I think what I have in mind will suffice.

i think a 94 2.3l have a header like exhaust manafold on it (dont judge the spelling) and i know there is a advance cam gear for the 2.3l that run i think about $75 to $125 bucks. that could give you a little hop up you might be looking for.

Thank you for the suggestions, I have already bought a '96 Ranger header, and plan on going with a ranger roller cam, and possibly the adjustable cam gear.

Haven’t posted in a while, so I thought I’d update…

I ordered the rest of the parts I think I’ll need to get it running, and a few extras…

Parts include:

-Oval port cylinder head with roller cam

-Motorcraft/Autolite 2100 .98 carburetor with 1” spacer, and all necessary gaskets

-“Superflow” triangle air cleaner

-Ignition coil

-Head gasket

-Intake manifold gaskets

-Exhaust manifold gasket

-Valve cover gasket

-Oil pan gasket

-Back timing cover

-Front and rear crankshaft seals

-Fuel pump

-Front brake pads, rear shoes, and hardware

-Skyjacker hydro shocks

-3.5° adjustable caster/camber bushings

-2” aluminum spacers

-Belltech 6400 shackles

-Polyurethane bushings from James Duff:

-Coil spring seats

-Shackle bushings

-Radius arm bushings

-Had intake manifold and valve cover powder coated

-I’m also thinking about picking up a stock appearing adjustable cam gear, but haven’t ordered it yet.

I think that is everything…? :icon_confused:

The intake and valve cover came out pretty sweet - Dark steel grey pearl metallic (Think it was one of the longer names out of all the colors... Haha)

If everything goes as planned I should finally be able to start putting it together this weekend! :yahoo:

looks good!

i had the same air filter that you ordered on my very first ranger(1988 base model with 2.0)

Alrighty guys, finally found some time to get back on here after too long of a break, thought I would update on my Ranger. It is now up and running and my daily driver. Quite a difference from when I got it to now. I'm pretty happy with it, there are still a few things I need to get worked out, but pretty much done with all the major stuff. Thought I would share some recent pictures.

James Duff bumper with KC Slimlites & HF Badlands 9000LB winch

Rear bumper custom made for Toyota, re-purposed and fit to my Ranger by my buddies at RJ Chassis Dynamics.

Great in the snow.

One of my favorite additions, a canopy. :icon_thumby:

Awesome in the sand as well.
