anyone have a good pic or mechinal drawing of what an '84 handle should look like? I know the '84 is a one year deal. I'm guessing it was a faulty design. Mine is very loose and not sure if I can fix it or replace it with something . .'85 up ?

What does the 84' one look like?

Here is an exploded view of one off an explorer, I can only imagine the newer BII ones are very similar

Edit:

Here is one for a 85' up, may give you an idea on if it would work.

Most 84's had a key slot in the handle and no lock cylinder in the gate. You had to put the key in to turn the handle. PITA.

You can use an 85 and later handle and have an unlocked gate, or you can hack a hole in for the lock cylinder, or you can swap on a whole 85 and later gate.

see my '84 handle doesn't have the plate at the base . . which seems like a good thing to have. Yes it does have the key slot. Do 85-up have windows that open seperately like the '84 does?

They can. Wiper or rear defroster = fixed window.
